I was pleasantly surprised how Ms. Showalter made a fresh version of the Zombie tale so enticing, dark and still humorous. I was expecting a Alice in Wonderland type fairy tale but it was not that at all. I found the first 50 pages a bit dull and almost dropped the book. But then something tugged at my interest and never let go throughout the rest of the book. I should have know better I have enjoyed many of her other works I've read. I loved her realistic characters with their real-life flaws.the way they interacted with each other was realistic as well, no Insta-love, insta-trust, ints a-ok after a terrible event. It was a treat to able to believe in their actions. The zombie are so evil, rotten and have some new qualities that will make anyone cringe. Throw out your preconceived notions these guys are their own kind of nasty. Omg they stink, rot !Our heroine is not the glassy eyed sweet victim. No, Alice/Ali can kick but, slice and dice and light a fire too. She has a love interest, well maybe two but it is not the most impotent thing for her to deal with and she knows it. I am going to keep going with this series. I really liked it.
